New ‘For Dummies’ Book Offers Helpful Legal Advice for LGBT Americans

Looking for some legal advice on your same-sex relationship or family? You might want to pick up a copy of the latest book in the For Dummies series, Same-Sex Legal Kit for Dummies.

Same-Sex Legal Kit for Dummies: book coverThe guide, co-authored by LGBT legal experts John G. Culhane and Carrie Stone, covers key issues such as marriage, joint assets, taxes and estate planning. Importantly, there are a couple of chapters that deal with parenting: legal challenges faced by LGBT parents and kids, adoption, dealing with birth certificates, financially protecting your kids and more.

The book comes with a CD that contains state-by-state marriage recognition laws, adoption and surrogacy laws, along with sample forms for things like co-parenting agreements.

Culhane is a law professor at the Widener University School of Law. Stone is a lawyer in West Virginia who runs Rainbow Law, a online resource for the LGBT community where you can find more great legal information and forms.
